The Long Beach Marina is owned and operated by the Town of Frye Island. The facility was built with funds from members of the Frye Island Yacht Club. There were 59 property owners on Frye Island who put up equity funding in the early 1990’s to support the engineering, design, permitting, and construction. All of the required permits for the construction of a 130 boat in-water storage facility were obtained.

History:

Construction began in late 1995, focusing on the rest room facility area. By the end of the 1996 season, all of the major infrastructure work was completed, e.g. dredging channel, boat launch, and rip-rap placement. The Yacht Club members who provided the funding were assigned a wet slip in the marina and are only charged a minimal usage fee to cover annual operating costs. There are 65 Equity Rights slips in the Long Beach Marina and no more will be sold.

The Long Beach Marina opened for service in May 1997. The Great Northern Dock Company of Naples, ME installed a high quality floating dock system. The slips are designed to handle boats up to 24 feet in length and up to 8 feet in width. There are currently 51 wet slips available for seasonal rental. An expansion to full build-out is planned for 2008. This will include some small slips for Personal Watercraft. There is a waiting list for slip assignments. You must be a property owner on the island to rent a seasonal slip. There are a limited number of slips for General Rental for people who may be renting a cottage. The seasonal rental rate is $900, and the weekly rental rate is $150. No overnight stays are allowed on the boats in the Long Beach Marina. An operations policy handbook has been compiled to provide complete details on the operation of the Frye Island Yacht Club and the Long Beach Boat Basin (Yacht Club Policy). Contact the Island office if you would like a weekly or seasonal wet slip for your boat.

The lagoon area where the boat slips are located is a very protected area. The lagoon will have 130 wet slip docks. The boat launch ramp is at the far end of the lagoon. All of dredging of the lagoon and construction of the ramp were done while the lagoon was isolated from the lake.
