Summary of Ordinance

Watercraft at Beaches

    Prohibitions:

    a. No watercraft of any type are permitted in areas marked by swim ropes.

    b. No landing, docking, anchoring, mooring, or launching of any watercraft on any portion of Recreation Beach.

    ii. Except as permitted § iii below, no watercraft may be left or tied up on beaches. Access to beaches is for pick-up and drop-off only, limited to 15 minutes.  All powered watercraft accessing Frye Island community beaches must have a current Frye Island resident or a temporary rental sticker.

    iii. Permitted storage of small watercraft defined as canoes, kayaks, rowboats, standup paddleboards, small sailboats and sailboards: Permitted small watercraft must be non-motorized, less then 16 feet in length, 4.5 feet in width, and capable of being lifted by two people, and storable on racks.

    iv. If not otherwise assigned by the Town, racks to allow storage of small watercraft are available on a first-come basis. Small watercraft must be stored on designated racks/storage areas (where made available by the Town) and any boat left outside the designated rack/storage area may be removed. Racks must be cleared at the end of the season. The owner’s Frye Island lot number must be displayed on any craft stored at a beach.

    v. Carrying in of a small watercraft from a vehicle is allowed, provided the watercraft is removed from the beach property when not in use. No trailers are allowed on any beach parking lot.

    vi. Mooring and anchoring must be done out beyond swimming areas and must not interfere with swim areas and boat access areas. Noncompliance will result in the mooring or watercraft being removed, and/or a fine levied.

Violations and Penalties

Any person who violates any of the provisions of this Ordinance shall be guilty of a civil violation

and, upon conviction, shall be fined not less than fifty dollars ($50.00) and not more than five

hundred ($500.00), with each incident being considered a separate violation. All fines accrue to the

Town. A warning may be issued for a first offense.

Enforcement.

This Ordinance shall be enforced by the Town of Frye Island, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s

Department, or authorized designees.

COMMUNITY BEACHES

A limited and shared resource for use by Frye Island property owners and guests.
